In the past it was customary that Reiki Courses were run over a two day period with little or no paperwork
or probationary period involved and unfortunately some people have felt that they have wasted their time and money only to be left feeling dissatisfied, disappointed and unfulfilled not to mention out of pocket. Thankfully things have and are changing through the introduction of Voluntary Self Regulation (VSR).

If you are thinking about taking a Reiki Course, this is what you should expect

1st Degree Reiki (Insurance is Compulsory) Class Size Classes should have no more than 6 students unless other master teachers are present to share and assist in the experience. In some cases classes are held for one or two students to suit their schedules. Practical Aspect Courses are normally run over two days during which you will be taught the history of Reiki and how to practice 1st Degree Reiki : During this level you are attuned to Reiki but not given sight or sound of the three Reiki Symbols that are used by your Reiki Master. These Attunements will raise your vibratory level and empower you to bring healing into your life. Written Aspect At the end of the course you should expect to be presented with your Level 1 Reiki Manual. Conforming to new regulations further study in person or by correspondence will be necessary. Following the two day course you should be required to participate in practice sessions with friends or family within a six week period from the date of your course. Your client records, case studies and a test paper should then be submitted for evaluation to your Teaching Master. Once they have been reviewed any required recommendations should be made to you before you are issued with your 1st Degree Diploma or Certificate. You should receive your Diploma within two weeks of returning your completed paperwork. 2nd Degree Reiki Class Size Classes should have no more than 6 students unless other master teachers are present to share and assist in the experience. In some cases classes are held for one or two students to suit their schedules. Practical Aspect Courses are normally run over two days. This is an entirely different course from the first degree – the learning experience is intense – but rewarding. This level teaches you the three 1st Degree Reiki Symbols The Power Symbol, Mental, Emotional Healing Symbol and the Distant Healing Symbol and the you are given a 2nd Degree Attunement. This level is without a doubt a deepening of the Reiki experience and a greater commitment to Reiki is experienced. Reiki at this level is thought to heal on the emotional level, while others believe that Reiki always heals on all levels. Different schools have different time length requirements before level II can be taken, usually three months between level I and level II, however when the student is ready is more precise. On completion of the two-day course you should receive Part Two of your Reiki Manual. Written Aspect You should expect to participate in 4 - 6 case studies and an assessment paper.Your client records, case studies and a completed paper should then be submitted for evaluation to your Teaching Master. Once they have been reviewed any required recommendations should be made to you before you are issued with your 2nd Degree Diploma or Certificate. You should receive your Diploma within two weeks of returning your completed paperwork. 3rd Degree Reiki Class Size This course can and usually is taught on a one to one basis with another Master present - It is often described as an almost "Holy" experience. Practical Aspect 3rd Degree Reiki (Master Level):During this course The two 2nd Degree symbols are taught. A great commitment on the part of the student is required and a bond forged between student and master. At Master level the new master is taught to Attune clients up to 2nd Degree level as pert of the healing process in cases of serious, chronic or terminal illness or injury. Often the Master will Attune a family member, close friend or carer at the same time so that they can assist in the healing process. This is not license to teach Reiki . Reiki can only be taught once the student has completed a teaching course. Written Aspect You should again expect to participate in 4 - 6 case studies and an assessment paper.Your client records, case studies and completed paper should then be submitted for evaluation to your Teaching Master. Once they have been reviewed any required recommendations should be made to you before you are issued with your 2rd Degree Master Diploma or Certificate. You should receive your Diploma within two weeks of returning your completed paperwork. Master Teacher At this level you should expect to be taught The Usui Master Symbol and this completes the awareness of the other five symbols taught at Levels II and Master level. During teacher training Master Teachers are taught how to teach and Attune up to master level. This level is the empowerment level and it is the culmination of the entire training programme and is generally an ongoing relationship between the master teacher and his or her Master Teacher until the new teacher is ready to become independent. This is a long and arduous path to follow and the student must attend at least twelve courses comprising of 1st & 2nd Degree, three sharing days and facilitate three courses with a master in attendance. This process can take up to eighteen months and should only be undertaken if you are totally dedicated to completing the course .
